The way this referendum was conducted, and its prelude, illustrates well the principle that the EU project can only ever proceed by stealth. Too much honesty with the voters and they have a tendency to say No.
Well done and thank you, Iceland 🇮🇸. You truly are a kindred Nation of ours. Hopefully, your "NEI" will be understood better than Greece's "OXI" in 2016 or France's "NON" in 2005. The EU and its political project isn't right for every Nation, and this should be accepted. Even for those who decide that being in the EU is more beneficial, there shouldn't be coercion when they reject certain aspects of the project. We probably wouldn't have voted "NO" had David Cameron's negotiation been taken as the olive branch that it genuinely was. Hopefully, lessons have been learnt and we in the UK will thrive post EU membership while maintaining our brother/sister hood to the EU, as a fellow European Nation, and prosper together by continued trade and cooperation without amalgamation.

Very understated. The self-selecting self-serving self-styled 'élites' of the EU apparat are on borrowed time - hence the warmongering
